Olympic Inspired DIY

This year Rex, I and Addison are lucky enough to be going to the Olympics in London!!!!  SO EXCITED, to help Addie get fired up we decided to take a peak around at some DIY olympic ideas.  We thought we would share a few of our favorites.  Of course being a frazzle brained mom right now I totally neglected to take any good pics of our crafting adventures so instead I am including the links to the pages of all these amazing ideas!

How-to Block Print Art

I have really been intrigued by block prints lately. They are so versatile and personal, I LOVE THEM. So I decided I wanted to make something special for my little man, I volleyed threw tons of ideas and ended on his name in a simple yet playful font that I found here, and a race car (his daddy LOVES cars, there for so will he) found inspiration here.

Every good project starts with the right "tools" I feel like a broken record saying that but it is SO true. I mean you would not go to a ball in a rotten pumpkin and a painting smock would you? LOL ok bad analogy, but the truth is, half of any project is making sure you have the proper materials when you start. 

Never just rush into a new project, take you time, plan it out and make sure to not cut to many corners unless others have shown you tried and true methods.  The first piece never has to be AMAZING, take a nice test run, get your toes wet. I am all about trying new things, I seriously start a new craft at least once a month. That might not sound like a lot but when you start adding it all up it is, with kids, work, and husbands (who kinda are like big kids), the dogs and family and trying to have a bit of a social life that dose NOT involve airplane noises, laundry or butt wiping LOL. 

SOOOO tomorrow I will start my carving.. I am waiting for my tracing paper to arrive, so as soon as it does I will start on it and post pics of the progress :)

Free Fonts

I am a Font Junky... I LOVE all the options... Fonts to writing are as rugs are to a room. They set the tone, add emotion and style.  There is a whole world of fonts out there for free for personal use, and if you want to use them for commercial use many are are many that are quite inexpensive but also there are many that cost as much as a REALLY nice pair of shoes :) he he... I like free. Many Sites have a place to "donate" to the designer, this helps encourage the designer to keep listing more fonts for free for us all to enjoy and use.

I bought a few for $5.00 to use on some of my commercial applications and I cant complain at that price! I refuse to even look at fonts that are more than that for the most part, with so many inexpensive options out there there is no reason. 

 I love having my artilery of options that make you say "SO COOL".   Lately I have been getting asked a lot were I get my fonts so I thought I would put together a board of some of my new Fav's for you all to snack on :) Happy browsing!

Upholstery - Tools Needed

Every successful furniture rehab begins with the right tools. I mean when you are getting ready for a night out you don't do it with out all the proper "tools" ie. Curling Iron, hair dryer, razors, perfume etc. Well its the same thing with redoing a piece furniture, you need all the right tools. It does not cost a lot to get the right artillery, and if you are only doing one piece so you don't want to buy them, you will have most of them laying around your house anywhere and the others you can surely find someone to barrow from, or find a local Home Depot that rents tools.  Not all tools are needed for every project, this is the basic lot you will need for most rehabs!

If you are a tool nuts'o like I am you most likely already have or are very eager to get the above tools!  My favorite was buying the air compressor and staple gun, I was beyond excited to "play" with it!  If you have any other suggestions or stories please share with me here.

Chair Upholstery How To

I LOVE upholstery!  Getting to the fun part, choosing the fabric, deciding the color, pattern and material, so many fun choices I always have a hard time choosing!  But the not so fun part comes first, removing the old fabric and padding.  There are often TONS of staples and hot glue. You don't have to remove all the staples always but you should remove most of them. 

You can get all the supplies you need at your local fabric/ craft store.

Chair Before and After

I love re-doing furniture, giving it new life, finding its inner beauty, giving a piece life again. My daughter and I went to our favorite new thrift mecha in North Miami and found this lonely chair for $10!  Who can pass up that deal, I know we cant, it was strong and in good shape, just was kind of homely.

Family Photos

STRIPES are where its at!

Its that time of year where its time for me to start thinking about doing a family picture, now that my little bundle is here and old enough to maybe smile at the camera.  We are a very laid back causal family so i don't feel it would be natural for us to put our kids in party cloths and spend tons of money on clothing they will only wear a few times. I rather find cute cloths that they can wear time and time again and that they are comfortable in.
